The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn.

A warm welcome to Our Early Years Foundation Stage at Abbey Hulton Primary School. Our early years provision starts in nursery through to the end of the reception year.

Early childhood and learning is a crucial period of life. It is a time when children learn an enormous amount about the everyday world in which they live. It is also the time during which they acquire lifelong attitudes towards themselves, towards others and towards learning. As such our early years curriculum is planned to encourage happy, independent and curious learners. We aim to provide experiences and opportunities which foster all areas of your child's learning and development. Each child is valued as a unique individual and our activities are tailored to help them grow and learn in a way that is meaningful to them. We offer a play based approach to learning whilst laying careful foundations for early reading through language rich environments and daily phonic sessions. Opportunities to problem solve and investigate are integral to our continuous provision within the early years environment promoting mathematical and scientific skills.

It is our privilege to take a part in your children's learning journey.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Intent Statement

At Abbey Hulton Primary School it is our intent to provide an exciting, progressive and ambitious curriculum which has the interests of our children at heart. This curriculum will support all learners to develop and succeed to their full potential.

We provide a nurturing environment, in which we celebrate individual differences recognising that every child is unique and special. We  aim to personalise learning experiences for our children in order that they can make progress from their starting points.

Our curriculum supports children in remembering more and acquiring knowledge. Practitioners reflect on prior learning and build on this through carefully planned continuous provision and adult led small group work.

It is our intent that pupils will be ambitious and have confidence in their own abilities. We want for them to understand the importance of working hard and contributing to society. This is reflected in the nurturing relationships we strive to form with both children and their families, working together for the best outcomes.

We aim for our children to leave Reception with strong communication and literacy skills and we seek to foster a deep love of reading. Our children get off to a solid start in their reading journey as they become skilled at decoding to read through a systematic approach to phonics using the Little Wandle Foundations Scheme for early reading. This prepares them for their continued journey to develop as readers in Key Stage 1 and beyond.

As our children become more independent throughout their time across our EYFS they will leave the Early Years phase as confident, resilient and curious learners who are well equipped and supported for their transition to Year 1.
